I took a screenshot of the closeup of Amon’s face in the end of episode 4. His mask has eye holes. I fiddled around with the brightness and contrast and made an interesting discovery.
AMON HAS GOLD EYES. That means he has Fire Nation heritage, because gold/yellow eyes is a distinctly Fire Nation trait:

I’m willing to bet Amon’s a non-bender (seems like a no-brainer), but he has at least some Fire Nation blood, if not most.
The fact that he has Fire Nation heritage makes me wonder about his sob story, about a firebender killing his family and burning his face. Maybe the firebender was someone related to Amon. Maybe, if he’s psycho enough, it was Amon himself, though I do doubt that because it seems a little too intricate/too fantastical.
